Last speech

I felt very confident giving my last speech unlike my first. For my pursuasive speech I knew that I had a good hook and that my speech was very convincing. I was very nervous for my first speech because I hated giving speeches and got myself worked up. Now I have learned to be relaxed and not make it a big deal. I think that I have improved my speech giving skills on a mental level more than on my delivery and presence. I have learned how to create a good hook and not worry about what other people think. I have a habit of moving around and saying "um" and "and", but those are habits that I may never break. Overall I am more confident about giving speeches which will help me in the future.

How to speech

Good
  • hook it related my topic to other sports and other people
  • volume and speed of speech I was not too quiet and I didnt rush through my speech
  • steps I had steps of how to hit each shot

Bad

  • eye contact I looked down at what I was doing too much
  • conclusion I did not really have a conclusion to my speech
  • enthusiasm I started out well with my hook and then it went down

Informative Speech Critic

I was very nervous before and during my speech but i felt better when i was finished. I think that my eye contact was not very good because i kept looking at the ceiling or at the ground. I also looked at my notecards too much and became dependent on them. I didnt read off of my powerpoint which was good. I was still a little fidgety but better than last speech. The powerpoint being controlled by someone else was distracting because I had to look at it to make sure that it was on the slide. I tried to use a fact as my hook but I dont think that it was a very good hook. My introduction was good and I tried to explain where it came from. My conclusion was not very strong because it is hard to conclude. Overall I think that I did ok on my speech.

Brown Bag Speech

I think that my speech was overall pretty good. I made eye contact and spoke clearly. I was a little bit fidgety and i said "and" too much. I had a difficult time completing sentences and instead i just connected my thoughts with and. I was a little shakey because I was nervous but I think that that is normal. My standing was good and i didnt pace around. I also used hand gestures and I was not stiff. I showed enthusiasm but I think I can improve on that.

Vocab Examples

Comedy: Comedy is humorous material used to entertain. South Park is a comedy because it is funny and entertaining. South Park is a good example of a comedy because a lot of people have seen it.

Irony: Irony is contrary to what is expected. This is ironic because the sign says no birds and there is a bird sitting on the sign. You wouldn't expect to see a bird because of the no birds sign but instead there is a bird on the sign.

Pun: A pun is the use of words that sound alike but have different meanings. This is a pun because the guy is telling her to use a vacuum cleaner and she says vacuum cleaners suck. When she used the word suck she meant that she doesn't like vacuum cleaners but they way she said it it can also mean that vacuum cleaners suck as in a function that they do.

Slapstick: Slapstick comedy uses exaggerated physical violence. The kid is thinking about throwing the rotten egg on someone and doesn't realize that he is about to walk onto a rake. The fact that he is going to get hit in the face by the rake is slapstick comedy.
